According to the results of the 2021 family income and expenditure survey carried out by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, dispensable income per household was NT$1.09 million in 2021, a 1% increase compared to 2020. The category “home services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” accounted for the highest share of family consumption (24.58%). Next, due to a longer average life expectancy and growing interest in personal health, total medical care expenditures increased by 17.78%. Meanwhile, expenditures on foods, beverages, and tobacco fell by 15.82%.
